They were so very welcoming and could have been kinder we turned up just before opening time and went out of their way to open up and let us in out if the rain ☔ we had a lovely meal and would 100% recommend the lamb shoulder you have a choice of mash or chips and couldn't decide and they gave me a little of each which was wonderful with extra gravy 😋

We enjoyed a lovely meal tonight. The service was very friendly and we will definitely return on our next visit.|This seemed to be a very sociable pub too with snooker available in the bar area but this did not affect the restaurant area at all.

Dropped by on a coast to coast walk.. couple of very decent pints and very nice food - one vegan burger and I had the vegan penang curry which was 👌 cosy place, nice people running it, well worth a visit

What a great place to stay while walking Coast to Coast! The owners were wonderful and accommodating. Our room was clean and comfortable. The dining menu was varied and the food good! I would definitely stay again!

We called for a meal at this hotel tonight and the food was excellent as was the service. Just great pub grub not trying to be pretentious in any way. The portions were huge and the prices were reasonable. We will definitely return.

At the heart of Shap, the food is excellent and the Theakstones bitter is very well kept. If you're into sports it's got great big screens. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly.

Stayed with our dog after a tough day as part of our Coast to Coast walk. The owner was lovely and welcoming. Our room was both spacious and spotless with a large en-suite bathroom. We had a delicious evening meal plus breakfast the following morning. We took advantage of the offer of a packed lunch
